"I've made...It was ..." or "I made ... It was" Which is correct?

1-"I've made a mistake. It was only an ordinary thing."

2-"I made a mistake. It was only an ordinary thing."

Which is correct? Why and what rule?

Thanks!

I don't understand the connection between the 'mistake' sentence and the 'ordinary thing' sentence, but in any case, both the present perfect in your first sentence and the past in your second sentence are correct. The rule is the same as for any choice between these two tenses. The present perfect tells what state things are in because of a past event.
