I've had the bands (She was wooed?) on five times. Are you sure this was bands and not banns? Banns are the announcements in church that a couple plans to marry - the ammouncement is made for 3 consecutive Sundays before the marriage in the home parish of both the bride & groom, so that someone could object if, for example, one of the couple was already married. It would mean she nearly married 5 times.
