I've failed in English plz HELP

hi everyone. i have failed in an essay test by getting only 3 out of 20. it's unbelievable and i have totally lost my confidence. someone help me, please and point out my flaws. the essay is quite long but not as long as my grief is. (by the way i m a student of First Year-Bachelor Of Engineering, moreover i have not cheated even a single sentence from any book) Emotion: embarrassed

TOPIC: DECLINING STANDARD OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE

The substandardization of English is commonly experienced. This phenomenon is found in countries like China, Malaysia, Singapore, Pakistan and Hong Kong. The natives of these countries are not aware of the significance and vitality of English. Subsequently, the standard of English is getting enfeebled in these countries.

The declension of the standard of English is subjected to numerous reasons. In the first place, it is due to lack of interest of the people in learning this language. In other words, some people consider it unnecessary to learn English. Similarly, many people believe that they are capable enough to get command over this language. Secondly, the class pedagogy plays a vital role. To put it simply, the instructions provided by the teachers have a prominent position. However, in Government Schools the level of English taught by the teachers is not upto the mark. In contrast to it, the Private School teachers implement this language upto some extent. But, still English-based dialects, structured grammar and good vocabulary is not taught apropriately. Moreover may teachers underestimate the students. As a result of which a hinderence in the way of their skill development occurs and they lose confidence. To sum up, the academic sessions are misconducted. Thirdly, the parents should give time to solve the problems and queries concerning the studies of their children. Rather, they refrain from doing so. In addition to this, some of them do not even converse with their children in English. On the whole, the children do not get the environment where they can fluently communicate and converse in English. Fourthly, the opening of various institutes which claim to enable students to cope with English Language within a span of few months. Consequently, many students are motivated towards these institutes, despite of the fact that linguistic efficiency of a student increases if he learns from the beginning.

The remedies concerning the fall of standard of English should be the main aim in the present situation. It is a high time to make people ascertain of the significance and applications of this language. In addition to this, the teachers should make the subject of English attractive for the students. Besides this, they should encourage the students to speak in English. Furthermore, parents should give time to their children and provide them an English learning environment. Additionally, the real image of the language training institutes should be revealed. If these positive changes are made in the learning process of a student, then he can adequately realize the difference between standardized and non-standardized English language.

It is a fact that English is globalized. Being an international language, its necessity is felt in various educational institutes, multinational companies, banks, offices and many other sectors as well as organizations. In this case, it is essential to know this language of business and technology. In connection to which, it is beneficial and prolific to raise the standard of English language.

What is your topic ? standard of english ? did you say standard of English now is bad according to your second paragraph ?

I think substandardization is a wrong word. I have never heard such a word before.

I wonder about your teacher's grading criteria as much as you do. So given the fact that the paper was for a general English course, a major aim should be to assess your grasp of English grammar, vocabulary, use of punctuation, and so on, rather than to see how capable you are of discussing the topic using specialised terminology and theories. I agree with the others that 3/20 seems like an unreasonably low mark for this.

I don't know what to advise for your next exam. I suppose you could try to write more simply. Sometimes we have to 'adjust our product to suit our customer'. Do you think that would help?

Anyway, you shouldn't lose confidence in yourself.

I agree that 3/20 is totally unfair. The best solution is talk with your instructor about his/her grading policy or standard.

I will regard your English lecturer as psychotic!! 3/20??? That is totally unacceptable. I have not been to Pakistan, so I dont really know the difference between English of Pakistan and the English of other countries. I come from a English-as-second-language country too. From my point of view, your english is fantastic for a non-native speaker.
