I've done or I did?

Hello.

Does anyone tell me the difference between "I've done" and "I did"? These are confusing for me. If someone can give me some examples, that's great.

Perhaps it might help to think of these two basic examples.

I cooked dinner. When my wife says is, she might be talking about tonight or she might be talking about some special occasion 10 years ago.

I have cooked dinner. When my wife says this to me, she usually means 'Dinner is on the table. Come and eat right now!'
