I dont even know when I will visit yet, so we could talk about it when I've decided/I decide to actually make a trip to Japan.
Are both methods okay in this premise.

I don't even know if I'll visit Japan yet, so let's wait to talk about it until after I've actually decided to make the trip.

I think it was mostly a matter of my not knowing the context. Maybe you could say "thought process" or "wording".
As a completely isolated sentence, it works better if you mention Japan earlier in the sentence. But if this is just part of a longer message where Japan has already been mentioned, then it isn't a problem.
