I'm talking to my friend who's visiting Hawaii:

"so how's the club scene in Hawaii?"

He replies:

"I've only been clubbing once and it was boring" Is this the correct response?

It's fine, although he might say "I've only been clubbing here (Hawaii) once and it was boring." Just to clarify that he has been to one club in Hawaii and not in his life.

Normall these things are said after somebody has visited somewhere in which case all the tenses needs to be in the past.

What about if he's still in hawaii and he says:

I went clubbing once and it was boring. Could this be said since the clubbing was in the past?

Thanks.
