I've asked to speak with you...

Dan: I've asked to speak with you because I need your help.

1) Is this natural in a context where Dan has asked an assistant to a man if he could speak with the man. The assistant has accepted and Dan then says this to the man when he meets him?

2) I've asked to talk to you has a lot less hits on Google, is it because it's not natural or just not as natural as I've asked to speak with you?

For example, the following would be okay for Dan wanting to speak (not "talk" - "talk" is coarse by comparison) with Joe: Dan (to Joe's assistant): Would it be okay for me to speak with Joe? Joe's assistant (to Dan): Sure, go right ahead. Dan (to Joe): I asked your assistant if I could speak with you and he said okay.
