Is this sentence correct?

Or should it be:

I am currently serving in the military and I have also gone back to school.

As "and" is a co-ordinating conjunction, you don't need to repeat the subject. Of course you can if you want to. In other words, both sentences are correct.

And and but are often used without repeating the subject. I don't think it often occurs with the other ones.
