Is "so" a pronoun in the way as "it" and "that" are in the sentence above?

"He felt the need to do it so." is okay. This means he felt the need to do it in that way. "So" is an adverb here ("so" can't be a pronoun).

I believe you are arguing that "do that" and "do it" are analogous to "do so", and that "so" is therefore a pronoun, not asking about "do it so" and "do that so" as the previous replies seem to assume. A
