Itself and ( ) brackets

The latter comprises several perturbations, including (but not limited to) ozone and aerosols, which were found to be uncertain in mediating ECS because the negative forcing of the former (itself a result of ozone depletion) seems to have been offset by the latter.

Does this make sense? Can it be improved - I'm not so sure about 'itself'. Thanks.
