It's too big a problem or It's too big of a problem?

Should I say/write, "It's too big a problem" or "It's too big of a problem"?

Thank you

Properly it should be "too big a ~" (and similarly for other adjectives). "too big of a ~" is an American colloquialism. To my BrE ear it sounds horribly wrong, but I imagine AmE speakers have higher tolerance of it.
