it's time we came together
Scientists have found that there's a strong correlation between these natural disasters and global warming. It's predicted that the magnificent ice cap on the north pole will completely disappear in the coming years during summer if the rate of carbon emissions continues as it is. Having said that, it's time we came together and confront them. I'm almost sure everyone wants to pass a healty world to our next generation, not a sick world.

if the rate of carbon emissions continues [as it is /as it does]. I didn't know which one to use and simply picked 'is', hoping you would correct it. Is there any difference the two?

Or:
