it's time we came together

Scientists have found that there's a strong correlation between these natural disasters and global warming. It's predicted that the magnificent ice cap on the north pole will completely disappear in the coming years during summer if the rate of carbon emissions continues as it is. Having said that, it's time we came together and confront them. I'm almost sure everyone wants to pass a healty world to our next generation, not a sick world.

Are there any mistakes?
Thanks.

Thank you, CJ. I agree with your changes. One more question,

if the rate of carbon emissions continues [as it is /as it does]. I didn't know which one to use and simply picked 'is', hoping you would correct it. Is there any difference the two?

as it is is the usual formula.
The meaning here is:
if the rate of ... continues (the same) as the rate (=it) is now.
Or:
if the rate of ... continues at the same level as the level that the rate (=it) is at now.
If you wanted to publish this in a scientific journal, the editor would probably ask you to rephrase it a bit.

Would it be more concise, if I say "if the rate of ....continues at the current level"?

YES! That one is lovely! Very 'professional journalist' sounding. Emotion: smile
