00All four choices are grammatically OK, but I'd say B is the most common collocation in a sentence like this.02br

We have another question in a number of exams. It is strange that such a thing ______ in your school.[ ]A. will happen B. happensC. should happen D. happenedThe correct answer is C, however, some students prefer D, because the context suggests "a thing did happen in your school". How to show them C is the correct answer?

C and D are both correct. Have you read all of this thread, as well as the one in the following link?

"Putative Should"

Thank you,Clive. I previously hoped to make sure whether I could tell students D is correct. Actually, I feel better to say a sentence like D in that context, because if "such a thing" indeed happened a speaker no need to use subjunctive mood to pretend as if it may not have happened, and "It's strange that..."is good enough to convey the mood of the speaker.
