It's starting to hit the fan

Hi guys! I hope everything is all right with all of you!

I'm from Brazil and I'm very glad to know that there is a place like this, concerned in help us in the improvement of our language skills.

I need a hand to understand exactly the meaning of the following expressions:

"It's starting to hit the fan" and "The place is becoming a salt mine".
