It's snowing vs. The snow is falling.

Hi guys, This site is amazing. I have learned so much from this place.

...

A while ago, I wrote a few sentences starting with "The snow is falling.... " and my english teacher corrected it to

"It's snowing..."

Is the sentence "The snow is falling." just plain wrong or are there some reasons behind?

I googled the sentences and gave out(?) more than 80,000 results.

It is not incorrect. What we can't say is why your teacher preferred the other way of expressing this, unless your following context did not make sense with "The snow is falling" or the purpose of the exercise was converting of nouns to verbs.
