Is there any rule or explanation as to why THIS or IT are used when introducing someone or yourslef (on the phone or face to face) instead of using a personal pronoun?
For example: This is Paul speaking/ It's Paul
on the phone This is Paul speaking/ It's Paul introducing someone This is Paul introducing myself I'm Paul All of this seems largely idiomatic to me. Clive
