It's nothing new that/It's no news that...

"IT' NO NEWS THAT/IT'S NOTHING NEW THAT Columbus discovered America thinking he was discovering the Indies." Are both acceptable? Are they interchangeable? If not, which one would be preferable (I'd say the second one).
