It's my favorite

Hello,
Today I have 2 confusing sentences:
I like carrots. It's my favorite food.
I like carrots. They're my favorite food.
Could you tell me which one is correct?

Both are possible utterances. The 2nd is more 'correct' and more usual, since verbs should and usually do agree with the subject, not the subject complement.
