It's like the house that Jack built

0Does it have more than one meaning? I've just found out on an online dictionary it means something along the lines to "a structure or building badly constructed"; I've always thought it only meant "a neverending tale", to which you can refer in a situation where everybody makes excuses and passes the buck and no one is held responsible in the end.02br

I've never understood it to mean anything other than a poorly constructed house (or project), with add ons and such -- an expression could be, "boy, talk about a house that Jack built" , or some such thing. Just imagine crooked boards, nails where screws should be, odd pieces of wood that are poorly cut, and you get the picture.

Its not about a house or a building... Its a tale with many dimensions or points of view... This is a never ending "storey" of subjects that are linked in this story. There are never ending stories to its construction, its a rhyme, a pattern repeated... You know like "Adobe" illustrator endless creation... Follow the yellow brick road or a wall to see a great wizard... Like one poster said it

Yes it means a construction poorly built, like the nursery rhyme where the house falls apart because there was a lack of care.
