[It's just] I have to go

Rhonda: So where are you taking me to lunch?
Danny: Lunch? Right! Sweetie, can I get a rain check? Something urgent came up.
Rhonda: You can't do this to me. I've been looking forward to today.
Danny: I'm so sorry. The thing is I really, really want to spend time with you. It's just I have to go.

I'd like to know here if I can replace "It's just" with "The thing is/ The bottom line is."
Thank you in advance for your help.

It's common to use it for a mild protest or explanation in conversations.
