It's is a 15-minute task

Hi

I have asked this question somewhere before and learned that some native speakers wouldn't use a hypen in the second sentence.

1- It's a 15-minute task.
2- It's a 15 minute task.
I would like to ask how many of you would NOT use a hyphen here?

#1 is fine except that you have a typo -- a superfluous "is". It should have a hyphen, as you've written. #2 is not right with or without a hyphen.

  • #2 is not right with or without a hyphen.
  • Not in my usage anyway.

Oh, thanks, Mr. Wordy.

Could anyone please remove the "is" from the first sentence, and the "s" of minutes from the second? My edit duration is over!!

Oh right... I didn't realise that the "s" of minutes was another typo!

Hi Tom

I've now edited out the typos for you.

As to your question, I agree with MrWordy. I would only use the hyphenated version.

I would always use a hyphen too. You might find a higher concentration of non-hyphenators on a forum for Marketing specialists, though.
