"It's been four days since they haven't called us, because they were still away."

Ooops, you're right...
...on second thought, I think I would need a really weird context...
I was thinking of "It's been four days since they haven't called us..." as "They call us every day, but four days ago they didn't call us..."
But then "not calling" should be something that happens regularly, that's too weird and so I was wrong. It would normally be
