Mr Zou told Hunan's Xiaoxiao Morning Herald he had been "bluffing" and had not expected to recover the iPhone4, which is worth around £270 in China, or its contents.

Could you tell me the meaning of the last part of this sentence?

It's a continuation of "...iPhone 4".

Does it make more sense if the "aside" is removed? "...had not expected to recover the iPhone 4 or its contents."

He won't recover the iPhone or the data stored on it.
