If someone says 'It's as simple as predicting how fall a bird can travel before it must answer nature's call', could it (the matter that the speaker is referring) be a simple one or it's just a backhanded way to describe that the matter on hand is indeed not a straightforward one?

I think the speaker really testing on my general knowledge about birds in order to understand what he's trying to imply.
BTW, the context is of a confounding one.
