it's as if

Are both examples natural and correct? Would you use 'It's as if' in 1?

1 Both superstars on opposite teams scored 25 points. They cancelled each other out. It's as if they didn't play.

2 Both superstars on opposite teams scored 25 points. They cancelled each other out. They could have not played and it would have been the same [thing].
Thanks
