It's a classic

Hi everyone.
Sorry for my torrent of questions.
In the TV show "How I Met Your Mother"
Ted has dated a girl named Natalie and somehow he wants to break up but he doesn't know what to say to her. So, his friends round up to help him.

Ted: I have to do this face to face. I just... I don't know what I'm gonna say.

Marshall: "I'm not ready for a commitment"

Lilly: oh, that's such a cliche.

Marshall: it's not a cliche, it's a classic.

I don't understand the meaning of "classic"

Would you please help?
