Italicised month in a date

Hi all! Why is some part of a date italicised in writings? Is there a rule for this or what?

Thanks in advance.

anonymous Why is some part of a date italicised in writings? It shouldn't be; there is no reason to do so that I can think of, and I cannot recall ever seeing that. Can you post an example?
