Hi. Do you think the bold sentence is an open past conditional? I.E. we don’t know whether she did become pregnant nor do we know whether it did make the slightest difference — all the past situation is complete open. Right?

The wording is not quite right. It should be, for example, something like the following: Let us suppose, for the sake of argument, that you and Andree had made up your minds to become united as a couple, at all costs. In that case, what would it matter if Andree got pregnant?
