Grammar

It was/were my sisters that were dancing. (?)

0I was reading a special English sentence stucture called "cleft sentence" in my grammar book, and I found one sentence I think is sort of strange:02br
02br
00It 01b00was02b00 01u00my sisters02u00 that were dancing.02br
02br
00I think that since the subject is "01u00my sisters02u00", then why it has a singular verb "01b00was02b00" in front of it?02br
02br
00Or it just what the stucture of "cleft sentence" is like? Please give me your opinion, thank you!0-
