It was scary

Is this sentence correct? Do I need to change some words?

It was scary performing in front of a big audience last night. I was about to turn down my role as a singer.

Thanks for the help

It works for me. "Role" seems a little unusual here, but I get what you mean. When I hear "role as a singer" I think of Al Jolson or Neil Diamond in the movie The Jazz Singer .

The incongruity would be more obvious were you to say, "my role as an actor."

In you example, "turn down my role" is figurative.

Maybe, "reject/scrap my vocation as a singer." Yo
