It was Monday/It was a Monday?

1. It was Monday.

2. It was a Monday.

Which sentence is correct? If both are correct, what's difference in terms of meaning between them. Thanks.

Top answer

Both are correct. The only reason you might add "a" is in the context of a known schedule in which a certain event happens on all Mondays. That way you can specify that some other event happened on a Monday, but you don't know for certain which Monday it was.
