It was a hot, if windy day.

Hi,

I have no idea what does that mean!
My closest guess is this: it is a windy and hot day.

"It was a hot, if windy day."

Would you please explain that structure?

Thanks

So anyone could explain that form with examples, so I can use it properly?

I (and I am not an English grammar expert) would interpret the sentence more like: it was a hot, though windy, day. Or, even though it was windy, it was hot.
