It vs that

So, in the sentence ' This is a hard problem. I know it/that because I’ve solved one like this before.', I should use 'that,' but I can also use 'it' if I want to mean 'this is a hard problem', shouldn’t I? Of course, I think it’s better to use 'that' than use 'it' though, after your explanation.
