IT - SINCE/THAT ?

Native English people, please help: Which sentences are correct/acceptable?

I have been working here for 4 years.
Could another way of saying this be:

It is 4 years that I have been working here.
It is 4 years since I have been working here.

It's been 4 years since I have been working here.

Top answer

Hi Lechnitzky; These two are the most natural: I have been working here for 4 years. It's been 4 years since I started working here.

OK thanks, I know these are the most natural. But if one of my students writes any of the sentences above which one(s) should I accept?

This is correct, but it is better style to write out small numbers in words: "four years".

This one doesn't look quite so good.

In Texas we'd say, 'been there 4 years'. It's short, sweet and to the point. Plus, it only took 4 words to say as opposed to 8 or 9. Then again, it would depend on who you were addressing. And I always use meant. I'm sure either is acceptable. It's the difference between it's and its that need to be correct in script/text. I've been here all my life and I still ***** it up sometimes.

And an English teacher would mark the sentence wrong.
AnonymousI've been here all my life
At least you got that one correct.

here is the difference with singulr example look
There is n't a chair in the class.
There is no chair in the class.
the meaning is the same ,but the structure is different . as if to say ,when you use no . you do not use the article a/an before the singular noun.
in case of plural example look:
There are n't any chairs in the class.
There are no chairs in the class .

Science fiction - it's way too far in the future for me to imagine.
