"it requires us to" vs "we are required to"

I wrote "it requires us to" in a sentence and one of my colleagues said that this is wrong and I should be using "we are required to"

I was wondering who is right, can anybody clear this up?

It requires us to make games in 3 months because of these people

This is what he says:
We are required to make games in 3 months because of these people
