It rained vs it was raining all the time

Hello everybody

I asked my friend who lives in Thailand:
What was the weather like yesterday?
It rained all the time.
It was raining all the time.
I mean I asked the question the day after raining (today).

Which tense is correct in English?

Both are correct.

P.S. But the simple past is much more common and the one I'd use, to be frank: "It rained all day yesterday".
