It OR they ?

Hi~ I don't understand why "it" is used in this sentence.

Shouldn't it be changed to "they" which I think refer to "sweets and fats" in the previous clause?

What do you think about this? Is "it" correct and what does "it" refer to?

are going to be drawn to sweets and fats because it temporarily elevates mood.
