It might help us to know what the context of this problem is

For some reason the first one doesn't seem natural to me. I even doubt the use of 'to' here. Do you also find anything peculiar with it? I've given my version below.

1: It might help us to know what the context of this problem is.
2: It might help us if we know what the context of this problem is.
