It made him be/it made him to be

Hello,

I had to find a mistake in an exercise and the mistake in my opinion is 'to be', which should be 'be'. Am I right?

It made him be a great leader or it made him to be a great leader.

Thanks

Well, several hundred years ago, the full infinitive "to be" would have been fine. But modern English has reduced this to the bare infinitive "be."

Correct. And I dare say that one could even eliminate the verb altogether: it made him a great leader.

I see a slight difference between "it made him be a great leader" and the ostensibly preferable "it made him a great leader", the former being more about behaviour and the latter more about a formative process.
