I would select the second choice with 'they are', because 'null results' is plural, but I read in previous posts in the forum that native speakers tend to use the singular form in similar constructs considering 'null results' as one thing, so I remain uncertain about the correct grammar.

I would use 'dominates'.

Such 'group' words are commonly used both with singular and plural verbs, depending on whether the speaker is thinking of the group or of the individuals in the group.
