It is truth or It is the truth

Hi

I have 2 sentences here - It is our responsibility to make sure what we are being taught is the truth. If the Bible verifies what they teach, it is truth; otherwise, do not believe it.

Is the underlined part correct, or should it be 'it is the truth'?

Please help.

Thank you.
