It is / there is

Hey everybody!

What would you say?

It is only one week left until I come home.

OR

There is only one week left until I come home.

Do you think only one of the above is possible? Or both?

Thanks in advance! Emotion: smile

Using the word "left" (remaining) makes the "There is..." sentence my choice.

What I'd say is, "Only one more week until I come home!"

Thank you!

So do you think the other one is totally wrong or just more informal or colloquial?

It is wrong, but you could say,

"It is my last week; then I come home".

Be careful that you only use come when you are

1) indicating a direction toward you

2) indicating that you are going toward the listener

If you are talking to a third person, use "go home" instead.
