But in the entry for ANCHYLOSE is a sentence:... since it is a matter of absolute indifference whether the hard sound is preserved or not...
In modern learner's dictionaries I can't find MATTER as in such cases without an indefinite article. Do you think the first sentence has a printing mistake?
