It is important to lean the difference between right and wrong at an early age. Punishment is necessary to help them learn this distinction. To what extend do you agree and disagree with this opinion? what sort of punishment should parents and...

It is true that children should be taught to distinguish right and wrong at a very young stage. While I accept that purnishment is an essential measure for parents and teachers to discipline their kids, I suppose that only some light punishments are allowed to use and harsh penalties should be forbidden to avoid hurting them.

On the one hand, I believe that punishment is important to help children have sense of right and wrong. In some case, if children constantly make the same mistake, a penalty will be effective for them to recognise what they did is wrong. Those kids will be afraid of punishment and not repeat their mistake.

On the other hand, I suppose that parents and teachers should consider appropriate sort of punishment and its consequence. Many harsh retributions have been shown long-life negative effects on children. Some are disable or wound physically because of being punished violently. For example, a child went deaf for being slapped on his ears. In addition, studies show that severe penalties might make children less confident or have a negative behavior on life and their surroundings. They tend to hardly start up new ideas or give their views because they might be afraid of harsh purnishments. Above all, children might have terrible childhood.

In my point of view, punishment is effective to discipline children once it is used together with awards and explanation as well. They need to be explained why they are purnished in order to stop making mistakes. Besides, giving awards can encourage children to do the right things.

In conclusion, punishment is useful for parents and teachers to teach their children about the distinction of right and wrong, however, which sort and way of punishment should be think twice.
