'It is across this way' any grammar mistakes with this sentence?

If someone asks me "where is the student dining hall?" and I reply him "It is across this way over that builing.", is this grammatically awkward?

Thank you for the lucid answer, Clive. Despite the number of years I spent in U.S., I just can't discern the subtle difference between proper and odd ways. It really makes me frustrating. I will keep coming up with these grammar questions until I get really fluent at the Enligh language and hope you to help me. Again, Thank you so much!
