It is

(About camera) It's five megapixels

(Engine) It's four cylinders.

What is it?
1. The camera is five megapixels?
2. The engine is four cylinders?

It sounds wrong to me because I think of is as something like equal. He is male. The camera is a camera, not a part of a camera. Would you say "He is two legs"? I hope my question is clear.

Thanks.

Hi, About camera) It's five megapixels We talk like this all the time. I guess it's a short form of something like 'The camera has a resolution of five megapixels', or It's a five-megapixel camera. (Engine) It's four cylinders.

How about:

Talking about car : It's four doors.

computer: It's 3 Gigahertz.

van : It's 10 seats

I think my question is to what extend we can use "It's" .

Hi,

Those all sound OK, for everyday speech.

So, you wouldn't use "It's for humans or animals" right?

Spider: It's eight legs.

OK. I will restrict its usage to inanimate objects. Thanks, Clive.
