It has been/It had been

Hi,

I'd like to correct the following sentence.

On June 17, I took a Baliwag bus to Cagayan Valley. It has been years that I had not had the chance to go to this 'amianan' part of the country even if I was born here.

What do you think about the below corrections?

a) On June 17, I took a Baliwag bus to Cagayan Valley. It had been years that I had not had the chance to go to this 'amianan' part of the country even if I had been born here.

b) On June 17, I took a Baliwag bus to Cagayan Valley. It had been years since I had had the chance to go to this 'amianan' part of the country even if I had been born here
