Hi,

“We’re considering this still completely experimental, and we’re trying to figure out the right way to go down this road,” said John Etchemendy, the Stanford provost. “Our business is education, and I’m all in favor of supporting anything that can help educate more people around the world. But there are issues to consider, from copyright questions to what it might mean for our accreditation if we provide some official credential for these courses, branded as Stanford.”

Q1) What does it refer to?
Q2) Could you please rephrase the underlined part so that I can better undertand the meaning of it?

I'd appreciate your help.

Thank you for your answer, CJ.

So this is one of those "special" uses of it. Thank you very much for giving me some great examples!

I have another question, though.

How should I go about interpreting "for our accreditation"? I thought offering online classes with some form of credentials corresponded to "our accreditation". Please help me one more time.

Accreditation is a process that institutions of learning (colleges, universities, ...) must go through.
These institutions must observe standards set up by a governing body that checks up on them from time to time.

For example, the standards committee might come to the campus of a certain university once every five years for an inspection. They are there to be sure that all the rules
