It

Allow someone to mistreat you, then defend them and take the blame yourself.
Example, “Dad is in a bad mood; he yelled at me. It’s my fault as I asked a stupid question.”

I would like to know the difference between "It(1)" and "It(2)"
1. It was yesterday that I met his sister.
2. It’s my fault as I asked a stupid question.

In one sense, the only difference is that It was is past tense, and It's (It is) is present tense. I can also make one change in the second sentence that may help the comparison: It's my fault that I asked a stupid question. Then the sentences become even more similar, and maybe it's easier to see that there is just a difference between past and present tense.
