Is/was written

The book was written in this room.
The book was written in this room.

What's the difference between "is" and "was" in sentences like the ones above? Thanks.

Present versus past tense. If the book is complete then it "was written in this room." If the book is an ongoing project then you could say it "is written in this room," but that would be rather unusual.
